Datawind, the maker of the lowest priced tablet Aakash, has signed an agreement with African telecom operator Movicel for supply of one lakh of the 3G hand-held devices which are the commercial variants of Aakash II tablets.
Movicel’s CEO Yon Junior inked the deal with Datawind CEO Sunit Singh Tuli in Barcelona, during the Mobile World Congress held there.
Disclosing that his company was procuring the 7 inch-tablet at a price of less than $100 per device, Junior said that the tablets will be customised according to the needs of the local people.
Movicel delivers mobile services in Angola and is planning to launch 4G FDD-LTE commercial services in 1.8 GHz band in the second quarter of 2012.
