Kapil Sibal, Union Minister of Human Resource Development & Communications and Information Technology, made an announcement on the floor of the Parliament that the Aakash II tablet would be launched. A budget allocation of Rs 765 crores was also made in the 2012-13 union budget for the supply of Aakash tablets II to the college students.
Now, May 2012 is coming to an end, but there is no news about Aakash tablet. The HRD minister has not updated any information about the launch or supply of Aakash II tablets so far.
Meanwhile, there is also no info about whether DataWind, the official makers of Aakash Tablets, have sorted out their legal wrangles with their subcontracting firms particularly Quaid Electronics. There is also no news about IIT, Mumbai, clearing the design aspects of akash II or completing the tendering norms.
With summer holidays coming soon to an end, the students are anxiously awaiting the Aakash tablet at least in the next academic year.
